"Fence Woman and Dog" is one of the "Rural Trilogy" ("Women's Destiny Trilogy") TV series that caused great repercussions in mainland China in the early 1990s. The play is adapted from Han Zhijun's novel "Quartet of Destiny" and is a modern TV series directed by Chen Yutian and starring Tian Chengren, Wu Yuhua and others. It tells the story of Zaohua (played by Wu Yuhua), the third daughter-in-law of the Ge family in a remote mountain village, and Tongsuo, who were an unmarried couple who were engaged in child marriage. After the marriage, Tongsuo made things difficult for her, and Zaohua had no choice but to file for divorce. This dropped a bomb on the Ge family and the conservative mountain village. The villagers criticized Zaohua, but with the encouragement of the old man Ge Maoyuan (played by Tian Chengren), the strong Zaohua finally left the Ge family and walked towards a new life. The play premiered in 1989.
