Overview
The father of the Qiao siblings was a professor at Northeastern University. During the September 18th Incident, he, his wife, and his daughter-in-law were brutally murdered. Only the youngest daughter Qiao Canyu and her young nephew survived. The eldest son Qiao Cantian was Zhang Xueliang's adjutant. He disobeyed Zhang Xueliang's order of non-resistance and rose up to resist the Japanese. He participated in and promoted Ma Zhanshan's Jiangqiao War of Resistance; Qiao Cantian supported and assisted Zhang Xueliang in launching the Xi'an Incident, and accidentally met his second brother Qiao Canxiao who came to Xi'an with Li Kenong. After the Xi'an Incident, Qiao Shentian returned to Northeast China and joined the Anti-Japanese War. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Qiao Shentian came to take over Changchun as a representative, but it was impossible for his family to have a happy reunion: Qiao Shenxiao died heroically in battle, and Qiao Shenyu's head was soaked in formalin solution by the Japanese. The unyielding temperament of the Qiao brothers and sisters remains in the national memory.
