"The Curtain" is a 20-episode drama TV series produced by Hunan Guangqian Film and Television Production Co., Ltd., co-directed by Liu Shuliang and Gu Renbai, starring Li Xinyu, Zhang Tianshu, Qi Yan, and Wang Xinhai. It premiered in mainland China in 2002. The play is one of the "Shanghai Beach Series" works. The drama is set in the 1930s and 1940s, and revolves around the emotional entanglements between the beautiful girl Xue Wan (played by Li Xinyu) of the Mo family, the wealthy son Hu Jinqiu (played by Zhang Tianshu), the famous lady Mary (played by Qi Yan), and the gang leader Park Ge (played by Wang Xinhai). Four young people faced different life choices during the Japanese invasion of China. The protagonist Xue Wan refused to perform in a goodwill play by resisting death.
