"Hakka Song" is a 30-episode drama/romance TV series produced by Singapore Mediacorp Production Pte. Ltd., directed by Yu Mingsheng, and written by Yan Jianxing, Cheng Jieyin and Xu Shengliang. It premiered in Singapore on November 11, 1997. The play stars Li Mingshun, Guo Shuxian, Xie Shaoguang, Chen Hanwei, Qin Wei, etc. It is set in Singaporean society during the British colonial period. The story revolves around four young Hakka people: newspaper editor Zhang Chongzhi (played by Li Mingshun), middle school teacher Hu Xusheng (played by Chen Hanwei), pharmaceutical factory owner Zhang Jinghong (played by Xie Shaoguang) and single gang merchant Sun Shizhong (played by Qin Wei), telling their experiences of going to Nanyang to make a living and start a business and participate in the independence movement. The play interweaves the emotional entanglements of Ju Xiang (played by Guo Shuxian) and presents the story of the Hakka community in their struggle.
