
Overview
In the autumn of 1924, Feng Yuxiang staged a coup in Beijing. The imperial cook Zhao Liangbang and his junior brothers Dong Jiarui and Guan Shaoze were kidnapped and sent to the Feng clique warlord's barracks to work as cooks. After several twists and turns, they escaped and the three junior brothers embarked on different paths. Zhao Liangbang returned to his hometown in southern Jiangsu to open a Huaiyang restaurant. Not long after, he was expelled from the army for the second time on the charge of "collaborating with the Communists." There he met his senior brother Dong Jiarui, who was later captured by the Red Army. He reunited with his younger junior brother Guan Shaoze. Soon, Zhao Liangbang returned to his hometown. After the Nanjing Massacre in 1937, the Japanese army held a celebration banquet. The three brothers put aside their previous suspicions and collaborated to plan the poisoning incident at the banquet. However, their relatives were brutally retaliated. His wife and father died tragically, and Zhao Liangbang's family was ruined. Faced with the confrontation between Dong Jiarui and Guan Shaoze, who were in different camps, and watching them fight for different beliefs, Zhao Liangbang was at a loss what to do. However, after being baptized by the fire of war, he finally abandoned the kitchen and joined the army under the guidance of the Communists. He threw himself into the revolutionary torrent with firm belief and became a staunch Communist.
