Overview
Moving a steel city from Wuhan to Chongqing along the Yangtze River is an unprecedented move. The Lu and He families experienced this and formed a three-generation love relationship. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Lu Mengsheng (played by Liu Xiaofeng), the posthumous son of a Sino-Japanese War soldier, was adopted by Zhang Zhidong. He and He Zizhou (played by Lin Xiyue), who are two years older than him, are brothers and sisters. Sou Oshima (played by Michelle Ye), an orphan and Chinese, was adopted by Hideo Oshima, an engineer at Yawata Steel in Japan. Because he was a Japanese, he suffered constant hardships throughout his life. The three met at the Hanyang Iron Works. Lu Mengsheng and He Zizhou called Oshima Soo a strange woman and were impressed by her intelligence in ironmaking. Oshima Shu fell in love with He Zizhou and committed himself to him. Lu Mengsheng objected. He hated the Japanese, but the origin of steel made them stick with him throughout their lives. Lu Yunxi (played by Xue Haowen) and He Jiayu (played by Cao Cheng) experienced the westward migration with their fathers, and were separated by Japanese bombings. When Lu Yunxi came to take over the steel factory as a battalion commander of the People's Liberation Army, He Jiayu joined hands again as a student returning from studying in the United States. Although they experienced the Great Leap Forward, the storms of the Cultural Revolution, and the rebirth after the reform and opening up, the two struggled for love and work, but their "bad relationship" continued. For steel - the dream of a strong country.
