Overview
The play is set in the 1930s and 1940s, during the uprising at the Huolonggou copper mine in the Hanjiang Plain of Jingchu, China. It tells the story of the protagonist Dong Haiwen's growth from a frail overseas student who is inexperienced in the world to a strong revolutionary warrior in the experience of war. It focuses on the ups and downs of Dong Haiwen and Gu Xiaofeng, a pair of happy enemies, and the estranged love entanglement. The line, through the struggle of two chemical geniuses, Dong Haiwen and his mentor, Japanese Deputy Chief Shun Koto, the struggle of explosives experts on the battlefield and the fierce game between Dong Haiwen and others and the national scum Gu Zhentang as the main content, passionately praises the lofty spirit of the Communists and national elites represented by Dong Haiwen, Zhao Siqin, Gu Xiaofeng, etc. in their heroic struggle to protect national resources.
