Overview
In 494 BC, the State of Wu defeated the State of Yue. King Gou Jian of Yue entered the Wu Palace as a slave for three years and suffered all humiliation. After Gou Jian returned to the country, he worked hard on the firewood and tried his best to restore the country. The literary genre presents "Nine Skills to Defeat Wu". The originally ordinary girl Xi Shi, with the intention not to be a slave to the country's subjugation, bid farewell to her lover Fan Li and went to the Kingdom of Wu. When King Wu Fu Chai and his ministers were wary of Gou Jian and repeatedly tested him, Xi Shi always had timely insights and sent warnings. Fan Li and others tried to resolve it, and the danger was averted. The State of Yue kept a low profile and gathered the support of the people, but the State of Wu was overjoyed with its achievements and went on an unbridled expedition. As one went down and the other went up, the national powers of Wu and Yue were already on par with each other. Gou Jian finally seized the opportunity of Fu Chai's northward march to Huangchi to fight for hegemony, and conquered Gusu, the capital of Wu, to complete his restoration of the country. While respecting history, the story also describes the legend of Xi Shi and Fan Li falling in love with each other and sacrificing their small family for everyone else.
