It tells the story of the legendary first half of Li Yuqin's life, the last imperial concubine in Chinese history and Puyi's last wife, the joys and sorrows of Li Yuqin's relationship with the emperor, and the story of an ordinary Chinese woman who challenged the imperial power and pursued happiness. The play uses Aisin Gioro Puyi's life experience from 1942 to 1957 as the main clue, focusing on the joys and sorrows and emotional entanglements between Puyi and his last imperial concubine, Li Yuqin. This drama interprets the dramatic life of "Cinderella" Li Yuqin, who married, divorced, and married a commoner to the last emperor Puyi. The script uses the perspective of civilians and the peculiar fate of a woman to see through the trajectories of human nature under the different system changes of the Puppet Manchukuo, the Kuomintang, and the Communist regime. Li Yuqin, who was born in a poor family, was selected into the palace at the age of fifteen, married to Puyi, and became the princess of Manchukuo overnight. Soon the war changed her fate. Japan surrendered and the puppet Manchukuo collapsed. Puyi abandoned Li Yuqin and fled in panic without taking her away. After the war, Puyi was detained in Russia as a prisoner of the Soviet army. Li Yuqin wandered around and returned home in despair. During the ten years of hardship, she waited for Puyi. Afterwards, Li Yuqin found a job as a librarian, ended her miserable marriage to Puyi, and started a new life. By chance, he met Huang Yugeng, a radio recording engineer, and they soon fell in love. When the two were decorating their new house and preparing to get married, the news of Puyi's pardon was published in the newspaper. Because Huang Yugeng married Li Yuqin, he was sent to the countryside for labor reform. They shared the joys and sorrows and felt equal love, simple life, and mutual tolerance. After experiencing all kinds of ups and downs, Li Yuqin felt that this was the real life.
