The story begins in 1995 on the ancient hiking trail in Qilan Mountain in Yilan, where a woman named Fang Xiujuan (played by Li Shuzhen) fell off a cliff and died. Her admirer and man Wu Zhenyuan (played by Taibao) who climbed the mountain with Fang Xiujuan became the most suspected person. Liu Jianda (played by Zhang Shi) was the prosecutor in charge of the case. Based on the evidence he provided, Wu Zhenyuan was finally found guilty and imprisoned. However, from beginning to end, Liu Zhenyuan insisted that he was innocent, which made Liu Jianda doubt his own judgment.
