The play tells the story of Zhang Chengen, a young man from a wealthy family who is in decline and seeks revenge. The silk tycoon Zhang Hai was killed by his big shopkeeper Liang Jinbao, which triggered the emotional tragedy between the Zhang and Liang families. Zhang Chengen, the young master of the Zhang family, became a poor boy overnight and made a living by pulling a rickshaw. After learning the cause of his father's death, Zhang Chengen embarked on the road of revenge.
