Overview
Genroku 14, the era of Tsunayoshi, the fifth Tokugawa shogun. Takumi Asano, the lord of Ako Castle, was ordered to serve as a receptionist when an imperial envoy arrived. Eventually, Takumi no Kami, who moved to Edo, not only did not get along well with Kira Kaminosuke, who served as his instructor, but because he did not bribe him, he was treated with a lot of meanness, and his anger finally exploded, and he slashed Kira in the hallway of Edo Castle Matsu. It was March 14th, 14th year of Genroku. Reports of the stabbing incident in the hallway of Edo Castle Matsu reached Ako early in the morning. Ako's vassals were furious at the unilateral ruling that Takumi no Kami had committed seppuku, the Asano family had been cut off, and Kira was not to be cared for. Ako Castle is in turmoil, wondering whether it will be surrendered or martyrdom. Eventually, the petition for seppuku made by the chief retainer, Kuranosuke Oishi, is rejected, and Oishi, along with his last remaining comrades, becomes determined to take revenge.
