Franz Neumann is a young Abwehr officer who discovers his Polish origins and decides to become an Allied spy.

Gdynia. Summer 1940. Franz Neumann is a 24-year-old Abwehr lieutenant. His stepfather is a high-ranking police officer in Gdańsk. He raised Franz with an iron hand, reserving more warm feelings for his younger brother Otto, who would soon set off on his first combat cruise on a destroyer. Franz is delegated to cooperate with the Krigsmarine, his direct superior is Commander Kessler. Franz does not shy away from alcohol and drugs, which are easy to find in the port city.

Franz visits the Swedish Mariner's House, where he learns that his father is a Pole named Kurkowski. Pastor Eriksson gives him a letter in which the father asks that his son be able to behave decently during the difficult time of war. Armed thieves attack Franza Street, but one of them, Staszek, turns out to be his former friend. Franz visits his mother and wants to find out more about his real father, but she avoids the conversation. But then she meets her son and admits that she once loved Kurkowski, but she thought he died at sea. Then she became involved with Lothar, who took care of her and her little son Franz. He does not reveal to his son the real motivation behind the relationship with the German.

At the Kriegsmarine headquarters, Kessler talks to engineer Holzer, who is responsible for the secret plan to build a research facility on the bay. They talk about using Polish specialists who know this reservoir well during the construction of the center. Franz comes to the command. During a conversation with Ilse, he manages to obtain a secret document regarding the resort being built on the bay. He is summoned by Kessler. He learns from him that his brother, Otto, died at sea during combat.

Kurkowski is taken to a German research center on the Baltic Sea. Engel tries to force him to cooperate voluntarily. Kurkowski refuses. At the Kriegsmarine headquarters, Franz meets Greta. Greta does not hide the fact that she would like to meet Franz during the Gauleiter Cup regatta that will take place the next day.

Franz visits his father and tells him that he works for the Allies. He asks him to help him sabotage the torpedo tests. In order to include Kurkowski in the secret homing torpedo program, he convinces Engel that the Polish engineer is a valued expert on this part of the bay. At the same time, Franz learns that the SS is looking for Lotta in connection with Kurt's death. He immediately warns her and asks her to escape from Gdynia.

Johann meets with Anna. He orders her to disappear from Gdańsk. The danger of Franz meeting her is too great. At the same time, Franz buys the book "Venus in Furs" from a street seller. On the street he meets Engel, who informs him that he is looking for a Polish prostitute involved in the death of Kessler's adjutant and the hunt for an enemy radio station operating in Gdańsk. Thanks to the book he bought, Franz deciphers a clue sent from London about how to damage a new torpedo tested by the Germans. When Ilse asks Franz about the cipher she found, Franz convinces her that it is part of his job as an Abwehr officer.

While Franz secretly experiences his father's death, the furious Kessler searches for the person responsible for the failure of the homing torpedo program. Roza is also suffering after Kurkowski's death, and Lothar informs her that he has been assigned to investigate Kurt's death. Anna meets with Franz and tells how the Polish intelligence faked her death to get him to cooperate. He also informs him that due to Kessler's increased vigilance, Franz is temporarily removed from espionage duties.

Right after discovering Franz's spy activities, Ilse dies in an accident - in fact, killed by Anna. The day after Ilse's death, Franz is summoned to Kessler. He accidentally learns that Kessler does not suspect Franz that Ilse's death had anything to do with him. Kessler knows that Franz was with his wife when Ilse died! Franz begins to understand that only Greta could provide him with an alibi. He begins to understand that Greta works for Kessler. Franz shares his discovery with Johann. He realizes the danger he is in.

Poles under the command of Johann and Anna are preparing to attack the battleship Bismarck. They want to place mines along its route. During the preparations, they are surprised by the Germans led by Kessler. Anna wants to kill them by blowing up mines. During the action, he notices that Franz is also among the Germans. She suspects him of betrayal. Johann soon explains to her that the mine operation was just a smokescreen intended to make Franz credible to the Germans and distract Kessler. At this time, divers led by Franz into the port planted explosives in the basin where Bismarck was moored. However, Anna still does not trust Franz and follows him.

The continuation of Franz Neumann's adventures takes place in 1941, just before the German attack on the USSR. A third player has joined the fight between the intelligence agencies - the Soviets. Half a year has passed since the thwarted attempt to damage the battleship "Bismarck". The flagship of the Reich is still in Gotenhafen (Gdynia), waiting to sail on its first combat cruise. In connection with this, the command of the Royal Navy does everything to establish this route in order to be able to set a trap. Franz, who is serving in the command of the Kriegsmarine, must fight to maintain his credibility in the eyes of the Germans.

In occupied Gdynia, Lieutenant Franz Neumann is drawn into another dangerous espionage game. Engineer Redliński, pursued by the Gestapo, unexpectedly finds Franz, seeking salvation from him. Meanwhile, Bergman recruits the brutal criminal Wulf to track down a traitor in the Kriegsmarine. Franz approaches Bergman's mysterious adjutant, Jorg, to gain information about Bismarck's operational plans.

After the explosion in Greta's apartment, the police start an investigation, and the SS starts to take an interest in her fate. Franz, suspecting treason, looks for the culprits and learns that the caretaker of the tenement house may have been involved in the attack. At the same time, he discovers that the daughter of a Polish engineer is alive and promises to help find her.

Franz, investigating the murder of a janitor, discovers that the killer fired a Russian rifle, suggesting the involvement of a Soviet spy. His investigation leads him to Redliński, who reveals that his daughter Hedwig may know the location of the scientific documentation.

Franz plans to rescue Jadzia, Redliński's daughter. In order to gain Bergman's trust, he sets a trap for Redliński, giving a false meeting place. He uses Eva, asking her to go on a cruise with Jadzia, during which he plans her escape. However, Eva changes the route, and Jadzia disappears.

Franz rescues Jadzia from Eva's hands and hides her with Redliński. Wulf follows them, trying to find secret documents. A group of spies goes to Pszczółki, where Jadzia's mother hid a suitcase with plans. The Germans organize an ambush, but Franz and Johann save Redliński and the girl.

Franz saves Eva from an assassination attempt, but discovers that there is a traitor in their organization. Eva and the Redlińskis are to be smuggled to Sweden, but the Russians and Germans try to stop them. Franz's plan misleads the enemy - instead of by train, the escape takes place by car on back roads.

Franz finds Greta in a Berlin cabaret and helps her escape from Engel. She later confesses that she once betrayed him by trying to sell information about Johann, who was collaborating with the Soviets. In Gotenhafen, the SS begins investigating, and Eva provides Franz with an alibi. Franz and Eva set a trap for Johann, giving him false information about the smuggling of documents.

Bismarck's sabotage is called into question when it is revealed that Johann has betrayed him. Eva fights to organize a banquet on the battleship that will enable the action to be carried out. Bergman hinders her plans, but thanks to Stromberg's influence, the banquet goes ahead. Franz organizes a new sabotage plan, involving Staszek, but after he is shot, Tadek takes over the task.

Lieutenant Franz Neumann discovers that Eva is missing. Stromberg was kidnapped by a fanatical Nazi Wulf, who wants to extract key information from her. Franz blackmails his superior, Bergman, to find her.
