Overview
Starring Mao Inoue, this is a life story set in the red-light district of Kyoto's Gion district, where she takes on the role of a maiko and geisha for the first time. The drama is based on the original work of a real geisha of the same name. Mineko (Mao Inoue) passed through the gates of an okiya at the age of 4, was raised by Umechiyo (Yuko Natori), and became a maiko at the age of 15. She works hard at the tatami room to become the best mom in Gion. Ayako (Riona Hazuki), a senior geisha whom she admires, watches over her kindly, but Saeko (Naho Toda), who works at the same okiya, is very aggressive. One day, Mineko meets her soulmate, actor Seiichiro Takamiya (Toru Nakamura), in the hallway of the store. Mineko's transformation from an innocent maiko to a sophisticated geisha seems to reflect the growth of actress Mao Inoue. The contrast between Hazuki and Toda, the dignified Ayako and the free-spirited Saeko, is also vivid. Gion is a place where you can play with love. But you can't fall in love just by playing around. Even though I ignored Takamiya, my heart trembled deep inside my chest. I love Inoue's eyes, which convey that sadness.
