In 1942, the main force of the 14th Brigade of the Fifth Division of the New Fourth Army crossed the Yangtze River south and established the southern Hubei anti-Japanese base area centered on Damu Mountain. In early August 1945, on the day of the wedding of Feng Li, the son of Feng Yuanshan, the chairman of the Xiangmu Town, and Xu Lingshan, the daughter of Xu Tianming, the Japanese army kicked a Chinese child to death. In order to save the lives of the entire town, Xu Tianming and Lingshan broke through and went to the Damu Mountain Revolutionary Base in southeastern Hubei to seek help from the New Fourth Army. While cooperating with Liao Yunxiang's conductors again and again, Xu Tianming couldn't help but fall in love with her. When the village leader threatened Xu Tianming with the life of the entire town, Liao Yunxiang stepped forward and sacrificed one person's life in exchange for the safety of the entire town. At the last critical moment, the New Fourth Army from the Damu Mountain base rushed to Xiangmu Town, beat the big drum at the town archway, and led the people in the town to rush to the Japanese stronghold, winning the town's proudest victory in the eight-year war of resistance.
