Overview
In the late 1940s, Tian Sufei (played by Zhao Wei), an innocent girl who grew up in a small town in the south of the Yangtze River, ran away from home on impulse and embarked on the road of revolution. This ignorant but beautiful and straightforward girl was assigned to the art troupe. With no performance experience, she won the welcome of the soldiers and the admiration of her teacher Du Han (played by Sun Haiying) with her silly enthusiasm. Unexpectedly, she did not want the title of Mr. Madam, but fell in love with Ouyang Yu (played by Liu Ye), a clerk from Shanghai with an aristocratic temperament. After some twists and turns, Sophie finally got married to her sweetheart, but the natural gap in life background and spiritual level made them so close that they felt like they were worlds apart. After the founding of New China, Sophie experienced unprecedented shocks due to her husband's constant betrayal and turbulent movements. But she still gritted her teeth and relied on her innate tenacity and persistence to compose the epic of an ordinary woman... This film is adapted from Yan Geling's novel of the same name.
