A Small Light follows twenty-something Miep Gies who, when her boss Otto Frank came to her and asked her to hide his family from the Nazis during World War II, didn't hesitate. For the next two years, Miep, her husband Jan, and the other helpers watched over the eight souls (Otto Frank, his wife Edith and daughters Anne and Margot as well as four others) in hiding in the Secret Annex. And it was Miep who found Anne's Diary and kept it safe so Otto, the only one of the eight who survived, could later share it with the world as one of the most powerful accounts of the Holocaust.
Miep Gies, a young, carefree secretary, agrees to help her boss Otto Frank hide his family after the Nazis invade Holland. Summoning courage she didn't know she had, Miep faces her first task.
With the Frank family secure in the Secret Annex, Miep's Jewish dentist asks if she knows of a place where he can hide. Overcome by the need to help just one more person, Miep finds new and more dangerous ways to evade the Nazis.
As laws against Jews intensify, two small children land in Miep and Jan's care. While Jan forges his own ties to the Dutch Resistance, Miep distances herself from people she cares about, including her own family.
