In the late 1930s and early 1940s, the Japanese army invaded Shanghai. Lu Ping, a skilled barber, accidentally killed a Japanese officer. He had to flee to the ancient town in Jiangnan to seek refuge with his master's brother Song Fengnian. Song Fengnian’s daughter Song Jiayi and Lu Ping fell in love at first sight. In that war-torn era, the pure love between the two people blossomed into the most brilliant passion and love under the shadow of the war. However, in order for his daughter to have something to rely on in the future, Song Fengnian married Song Jiayi to the Kuomintang officer Ye Jiangtian and became his concubine.
