Overview
The play tells the story of the Kang family in Heluo Town, Gong County during the Tongguang period of the late Qing Dynasty. Due to an unjust case, the family fell from "one discipline and two scholars" in the heyday of the "farming and studying family" to a dilapidated situation of "one discipline and two mourners". The head of the family, Kang Boru, supported his daughter-in-law Zhou Ruolan to revive the family business. Zhou Ruolan opened the "Kang Family Restaurant" opposite the "Heluo Cang" by the Luo River, and asked her mother's family for the family's "Tofu Feast". Since then, the business has been booming. After the orphan Kang Huiwen grew up, he started trading mainly salt, grain, cotton and military supplies from Jingyang, Shaanxi to Linyi, Shandong. Later, in order to dredge the river and rescue the victims, the Kang family donated almost all their property to the Tongmenghui to fund the democratic revolution.
