In the spring of 2004, Qiantang Town, a famous town in the south of the Yangtze River with sericulture and silk as its pillar industry, was caught off guard by trade barriers in product exports. Various hidden contradictions in regional economic development suddenly intensified. The Shen Group, the leading enterprise connecting the entire industrial chain, suddenly fell into crisis. Tens of thousands of silkworm farmers and related companies who had signed production and sales contracts with the Shen Group and relied on it to survive were also deeply affected.
