Danish undercover police officer Helene begins a challenging collaboration with a German police colleague in the hope of solving a one-year-old murder mystery in Jutland. At the same time, they must convince all distrustful locals that they are an ordinary love couple.
A year has passed since the brutal murder of a German surfer in a Jutland fishing village and the perpetrator is still walking free. Now the Danish undercover police officer Helene hopes to solve the case, in close cooperation with fellow German police officer Thomas.
Helene and Thomas move into a cramped campervan and get to know some of the most powerful people in the village. They also make acquaintances with Sebastian's old social circle, including surfer Michelle, who proves to be of the more enigmatic kind.
Thomas and Helene's cover is put to the test when they are invited to a couples dinner at Peter and Susanne's. At the same time, they would like to know more about Ulrik, but he is quiet. A surprise awaits when Helene decides one night to seek him out.
Thomas prepares the café for opening while Helene gets a job at the village care home. There she meets a demented old man of particular interest. Thomas acquires access to the local archives' surveillance tapes for new information about Sebastian.
It's all chaos. Thomas has gone to Germany, Helene is alone in Hvide Sande and Ellen is angry. At the same time, another threat arises. A dangerous criminal, whom Helene has helped catch, has escaped and police suspect he wants revenge.
Helene is delighted when Thomas returns from Germany, especially as he offers new knowledge of Sebastian's movements before his death. Forensics conclude that Ulrik was murdered with a Luger pistol and Helene continues to process Laurits.
Thomas finds the book sebastian managed to steal from the local archives. It leads to an old lady named Dagmar and Helene takes part in Dagmar's testimony while the investigation leads Thomas on to an old workshop.
End of season. Thomas and Helene get another lead and soon they can account for a tragic sequence of events linked to love, jealousy and money. Thomas and Helene can finally go home again, but are they ready to part?
