Wild at Heart catches up with British vet Danny Trevanion and his family as they strive to expand the veterinary practice and co-exist with their neighbours through a drought which grips the region. Danny's wife, Sarah, is busy juggling work and family life, and Lucy-Jo Hudson as daughter Rosie, is keen to prove herself an able vet assistant to her father while romancing bar owner Max.

Danny saves a dying African monkey, unaware that he is sparking a chain of events that will change his family's lives forever.

As Danny considers signing a binding business contract, Sarah is appalled to learn the reserve would have fierce competition in the form of a nearby rival. Evan and Du Plessis accidentally run over a cheetah on the way to buy supplies - but the events of the day pale into insignificance when Olivia is bitten by a snake.

The arrival of Evan and Olivia's father throws the family into turmoil. He is determined to take his kids back to England with him and threatens to go to court to get custody. Sarah is furious - he wasn't thinking of them when he left her for his secretary. Rosie can't hide her delight that they might all be going home, but when a drunken fight breaks out in a bar, she is rescued by Tate.

Evan and Olivia run away after a series of rows, leaving Sarah to search for her children alone while Danny and Du Plessis go looking for a half-drugged lioness. While tracking the animal, they crash the truck - putting the warden in need of an emergency operation.

Sarah is forced to ask Tate for help when the first paying guests arrive early at a chaotic Leopard's Den, but a string of unfortunate misunderstandings at the rival reserve convinces Rosie her stepmother is having an affair. A rampaging group of rogue male elephants are damaging the land, so Danny introduces an older female animal to keep them in line.

Danny is concerned that poachers may be in the area and when he finds one of his zebras has been killed, he and Du Plessis stake out the grazing area. They find more dead animals, but these were not killed by poachers. Tests reveal anthrax is the cause and Danny imposes a quarantine on Leopard's Den. Sarah is upset by Rosie's friend Izzy and goes looking for a missing lion cub, but she collapses. The family must wait to see whether Sarah has anthrax or is just allergic to the vaccine.

As Sarah agrees to plan a wedding reception to aid finance, which is severely lacking. Tate has an accident whilst illegally hunting and this leads to his death despite Danny's best efforts. Nomsa's daughter, Thandi arrives and becomes Evan and Olivia's teacher.

It's the reopening of Mara and a British wildlife charity is releasing a Vulture into the wild. Danny has a love interest in an English woman who comes to watch the release but Sarah prevents it going any further.

Evan and Du Plessis keep running away from the work of Leopard's Den to look after Togo, an orphaned elephant. Rosie finds Du Plessis' son Kirk on a game drive but Du Plessis attempts to shoot down the idea of him being a father. Sarah also finds out her father has died in hospital.

With the Leopard's Den's annual inspection fast approaching, Danny is feeling the pressure of Sarah's absence.

Everyone's excited about the arrival of Danny's old tutor and Rosie's godfather, Bash, but he appears to be suffering from memory loss.

The family are less than prepared when Caroline, Sarah's mother, arrives which drives Sarah into running into a buffalo.

Simon, Sarah's ex-husband, arrives at Leopard's Den and causes trouble between the family. Also, Sarah decides she doesn't want children with Danny.

A plane crashes at Leopard's Den bring with it an unwanted virus.

Du Plessis's birthday celebrations don't go according to plan. He's been told he has angina and doesn't feel like celebrating. And when Danny tries to get him out in the bush working again, things take a turn for the worse when Hobi the lion attacks them both.

The residents at Leopard's Den are reeling from the lion attack. Danny has been given the all-clear to go home but Du Plessis is still unconscious. Will he pull through?

New lodges nearly break the family, but they learn that it's the animals which make Leopard's Den a success.

Danny needs an assistant but fails to see that she's right under his nose. Sarah finds out that she needs her mum.

Leopard's Den expands and DuPlessis becomes a grandfather after a close-call with an angry elephant.

Danny and Sarah let their past catch up with them, and Caroline and DuPlessis go shopping for lion-prey.

A White Lion brings mixed fortunes to the family and Rosie is asked the big question. Amy Kriel is the last person you expect in Africa.

Caroline's sister Judith tries to help and the drought forces Danny to sell some of his animals. Will Rosie and Max get married?

The drought finally throws up a fire and the wedding turns into a firefight for everyone. The omens are bad.

Tragedy strikes and the Trevanians have to decide what future lies ahead of them in these difficult times.

At Leopard's Den's busy animal hospital, newly-widowed Danny Trevanion is battling to keep his family and business together, after the tragic death of his wife.

Danny and Evan's life on the run doesn't start well when Danny falls asleep at the wheel and drives into a ditch. They have to enlist a local farmer, Johann, to winch them out.

Danny needs to control an outbreak of rabies, and meets Alice the vet enlisted to help. But things don't get off on a good footing.

It is the day before Rosie's wedding, after the tragic events of the first attempt. And Du Plessis gets bad news when Caroline decides to stay in the UK.

Alice and Danny get to see an African wild dog up close, with scary results, while Rosie and Max have a rift.

Du Plessis has news for everyone at Leopard's Den and Vanessa asks Danny to look at a lion they have acquired that is behaving strangely.

Du Plessis becomes South Africa's version of Crocodile Dundee, but is it all going to end in tears?

Alice is devastated to overhear that Danny shared a kiss with Vanessa. The family visit an auction and with the elements against them they must all focus on keeping the animals safe.

Injured Danny is still stranded alone and delirious in the jungle, surrounded by hungry animals. And is Charlotte OK after the landslide?

A lioness is loose in town, and it is Family Day. Danny and Alice agree to keep their relationship under wraps for now.

Danny and Alice have been rehabilitating a group of circus elephants. Rowan is surprisingly cooperative, until he reveals an ulterior motive. After a turbulent courtship, Dup is set to marry his beloved Caroline. As the wedding plans are finalised, their happy day is threatened by someone from Caroline's past.

Danny has a crisis of confidence when he hurts his back helping to build a new school in the township. A hotshot young vet at Mara makes a play for Alice, but his modern ideas are put to the test. Meanwhile, Caroline asks Dup to organise their honeymoon, and all that glitters turns out not to be golden.

Against the backdrop of a beauty pageant at Mara, Alice is torn between helping Rowan rehabilitate a tiger and her own seemingly more mundane responsibilities at Leopards Den. Danny's altruistic project to help the township's animals takes an unfortunate turn when a neighbour's pregnant cow develops complications.

Danny confides in Dup about his intention to ask for Alice's hand in marriage, but the unexpected and turbulent arrival of his deeply troubled teenage stepdaughter Olivia threatens to derail his plans.

Danny and Alice's plans for a romantic weekend away are ruined when they come across a crash out in the bush. With a seriously injured tourist on their hands and a lion on the loose, they are faced with a long, dark night in the bush. Meanwhile, Dup decides it's time Olivia learned some manners.

Danny's attempts to help Alice settle into her new job at Mara backfire when a hyena goes on the rampage. With an injured guest threatening a lawsuit and the life of an animal in the balance, he realises he must pull out all the stops if he is to salvage his relationship with Alice.

With matters between Danny and Alice still tense, a distracted Danny appears to make a fatal mistake while treating a rare black leopard. When the big cat dies, its arrogant owner demands that Danny be investigated for malpractice. Danny follows his instincts and goes against his suspension to treat Jana who is suffering from renal failure.

After being struck off, Danny's career is in tatters and he's struggling to cope. The family's plan to keep him busy with a group of young offenders backfires when one of the young men (Thabo) takes a shine to Olivia. A shock wave hits the family as Rowan reveals an explosive secret.

There are dangerous consequences when Dup ignores his heart condition and collapses while alone in the bush. Danny and Alice get more than they bargained for when they try to deal with two rogue lions that have been attacking local cattle. Danny and Alice try to find a home for a rare aardwolf, but Vanessa's father, who has arrived to help save Mara from financial ruin, refuses to cooperate.

While on honeymoon in London Danny and Alice meet Danny's estranged father Robert, who returns with them to Leopards Den to help save the pride of lions from a deadly outbreak of canine distemper. Robert reveals he has brain cancer. How will Danny cope with the loss of both his father and his beloved pride of lions?

Grieving Danny throws himself into his work and applies for the prestigious role of State Vet. His attempts to involve Thabo in the lion-breeding project leave Dup feeling like an outsider. Meanwhile, a geologist arrives to survey the area, and a rogue baboon causes havoc.

On his first day as State Vet Danny faces a tough decision when his investigation into an animal-smuggling ring takes him surprisingly close to home. Meanwhile, Thabo is settling in, but the arrival of his delinquent older brother brings trouble and casts doubt on Thabo's sincerity.

Danny oversees an animal translocation for his first big project as State Vet. Alice is confident she can run the surgery in his absence - until she has a close encounter with lions.

Strange events are occurring at Leopards Den, and Danny must work fast to solve the mystery before more animals die. His investigation reveals a looming threat to Leopards Den. Dup jumps to the wrong conclusion when he discovers a positive pregnancy test in the trash.

Danny is called in to investigate when the routine transportation of a valuable tiger goes wrong, and he discovers that Alice could be to blame for the animal's death. Meanwhile, Dup resorts to desperate measures to save his home and land when Christian Peeters, manager of the mining company AfriSpec, reveals the company's real intentions.

Danny and Alice are divided when Peeters wants their help relocating a pack of rogue hyenas. Meanwhile, Dup launches a one-man campaign of vandalism against Peeters and the mining company. A restraining order and a fine are not the only consequences of his actions.

As the High Court case looms, pitting AfriSpec against the Trevanion Family, Danny realises he may have to sacrifice his principles to save Leopards Den. Caroline decides to take matters into her own hands by going undercover at the mining company.

When AfriSpec takes over Leopards Den, Danny reaches an agreement with Peeters to set up a field hospital in the bush until all the animals have been rehomed. Dup tries to claim squatters' rights, but when the electrical generator fails, their protest takes a catastrophic turn.

The family's last stand to stop the mining company from destroying Leopards Den ends in tragedy. Now essentially homeless, Danny decides it would be best for everyone to return temporarily to the UK to live with Georgina until he can find a new home for them.

Some time has passed. While the rest of the family has been in England, Danny and Dup have been working at 'Big Five' wild animal park, trying to raise money to purchase a new property after losing Leopards Den.

Caroline, Liv and Charlotte are excited to be back and are keen to see their new home, Clearwater Farm. Their excitement turns to dismay when they discover the place is a ruin. Dup confronts Danny about the suspicious death of Christian Peeters, and they agree to keep quiet about the dead body found in the Leopards Den swimming pool.

Danny has found a potential financial lifeline in a pharmaceutical company looking to fund an environmental project. He pitches his business plan, but the day lurches from disaster to disaster. It soon becomes apparent that Ed Lynch, veterinarian at Big Five, is competing for the same grant. Dup is determined to prevent the sale of Leopards Den to Lynch.

Caroline is furious that Danny appears to be betraying Dup by agreeing to work with Ed Lynch. When a controlled brush fire spirals out of control and a cheetah is injured, Caroline helps Lynch operate on the animal and she sees a more sympathetic side to him. Meanwhile, Rosie returns at Caroline's suggestion to try to help solve the family's problems. But where is Max?

Caroline's angry loyalty to Dup estranges the pair from the rest of the family. It appears Dup is coming unhinged by his belief that he's seen Christian Peeters' ghost in the township. Meanwhile, Ed and Danny try to rescue some animals from a zoo that's closing. Caroline confronts Dup, who reveals the truth about the circumstances of Peeters' death.

Danny is in prison, accused of murdering Peeters, but Dup sets out to prove his innocence. Meanwhile, Ed's increasingly suspicious behaviour makes Dup think he's harbouring a dark secret. With nobody around to help, Rosie goes on a lone search for a wild cheetah, leading her into danger.

Ed is left in charge of the endangered species project while Danny is away and Dup is doing community service. A beautiful new female vet turns up at the clinic, claiming to have a lion that carries the rare Barbary gene. Dup suspects the newcomer has an ulterior motive. Meanwhile, Fatani, Liv and Thabo are carrying out an animal census.

Everyone is surprised when Fiona arrives, claiming to be Ed's wife and seeking to reconcile the differences that led to their earlier separation. However, a misunderstanding leaves her thinking that Rosie is Ed's new love interest. Meanwhile, a disturbing link is revealed between some seemingly unrelated animal deaths.

The Trevanion Family's financial woes continue, as Danny and Ed are refused an extension on their mortgage. Desperate to restore his relationship with Alice and be by her side when the baby is born, Danny makes an anguished decision about his future that leaves Dup stunned.

Strange things are happening at Leopards Den as Danny prepares to leave for the UK. There's an invasion of frogs, an elephant has wandered into the kitchen, and the cheetah is off his food.

Dup learns he has a life-threatening heart condition. With relationship issues causing tension in the family and Danny unhappy about the forthcoming marriage of Rosie and her fiancé Dylan, Dup grasps at the opportunity for one last adventure to heal the rifts.
