"The East" is a revolutionary historical drama directed and starring Tang Guoqiang, written by Liu Xing, and co-starring Sun Weimin, Zong Liqun and other actors. It is also the sequel to the TV series "Liberation". It premiered on CCTV 1 on March 22, 2011. The play truly records the international and domestic historical events at the beginning of the Republic, and shows the transformation of the People's Republic of China in politics, military, economy, diplomacy, culture and other aspects during a specific historical period from the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949 to the 40th anniversary of the victory of the October Revolution on November 7, 1957.
