Overview
"The New Biography of Budai Monk" takes the popular story of Maitreya Buddha as the main line. The whole play is divided into multiple units such as the Lotus Blooming, the Tribulation of the Mind, the Fate of the Immortal Couple, and the Tribulation of the Relics. It tells the story of Maitreya Buddha's reincarnation and his practice in the human world. In the previous life of Budai Monk, Maitreya Buddha was wild and unruly in nature and despised all rules and precepts, especially the outdated dogmas of heaven. He was sent to the mortal world by Buddha for his conflict with the Jade Emperor. The Budai monk eliminates evil and promotes good. He uses his wisdom to fight wit and courage with the evil forces in the world, saves the people from suffering, and is respected and loved by the people. The sentence "A big belly can tolerate things that are difficult to tolerate in the world; when you open your mouth, you can laugh at the ridiculous people in the world" is a true portrayal of Budai monk.
