During the Revolution of 1911, the patriotic young intellectual Yihong (played by Qi Kui) came to Mudu with the enthusiasm and desire to save the country. He met the tea lady Zixin (played by Fan Wenfang), the piano girl Ruoxian (Xu Jun), the painter Zhihua (Zhang Lin), the embroiderer Zhijin (Gao Yang) from Mudu Town, as well as Zixin's fiancé Wang Dazhi, the dandy Chen Jiaming (played by Wang Ye) who loves the piano girl and other young people. Sisters Zhijin and Zhihua both fell in love with Yihong, forcing Zhihua to go away from home in order to fulfill Yihong and their sister; Ruoxian and Dai Siyuan (played by Tian Yu) couldn't stay together because of Qin, and Chen Yihong never gave up his pursuit of Ruoxian; Zixin and Wang Dazhi, the happy enemies, experienced time and again in their relationship, and finally Zixin insisted on marrying Dazhi at the critical moment when the war broke out. Together, everyone experienced the fall of the Qing government, the spread of reform ideas, the attack on lake bandits to guard Mudu, the rescue of wounded revolutionary soldiers, and the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War. Everyone in Mudu understood that this was a national war, and they put aside their conflicts, love and hatred, and resolutely devoted themselves to the torrent of the Anti-Japanese War.
