Overview
Gerard of Jersay, a good-looking young man who left for America years earlier with the hope of making his fortune, but returned to Italy penniless, takes lodging in a hotel where, thanks to a misunderstanding, the rumor spreads that he is an incognito millionaire. A singular character, known only by the nickname "Scaramanzia", gets hired by Gerardo as his secretary and, without his knowledge, borrows money in his name, plays on the stock market and unexpectedly manages to earn millions, thus making Gerardo a millionaire for real.
