Overview
Born in 1898, René Clair was a witness and protagonist of the birth of cinema. In turn journalist, actor, screenwriter, he made his first film in 1924, very marked by Dada, an influence which would never leave him. At the beginning of the 1930s, he filmed some classics, such as “Under the Roofs of Paris”, before going into exile in England and then in the United States, where he made four films. Back in France, he pursued two careers: directing and writing. In 1960, he was elected to the French Academy. “Les Fêtes galantes”, in 1965, was his last film. This documentary traces the career of this filmmaker, both classic and fanciful, who saw the New Wave coming with a critical eye.
