Overview
In a timeless village in an unidentified countryside, a strange man in black arrives, introducing himself as the friend of the mechanic who has just committed suicide, for a mysterious reason. "The Reaper", as the villagers call him, also turns out to be a very good mechanic and settles into his friend's house and workshop after buying them from the widow. The whole village spies on him like Nicole, a neighbor, who even finds him very much to her liking but the Reaper refuses his advances; like Jeanne, known as "Benette", who will know how to seduce him and upon contact with him, will be transformed; like Marie-Fer, the disenchanter who sees in him a rival, having guessed his gifts as a healer, and then like Monge, mad with jealousy to see "Benette" escape from him, and who will lead Jean-Paul, Nicole's husband, to the point of attempted murder.
