A sharp look at the representatives of the degenerating Slovak landowners in the 19th century. The plot of the work takes place in Chujava, at the time of elections to the office. There are two candidates for the office: Gejza, son of Zeman Kobozay and Zeman Jablonkay. From the beginning, most of the yeomen and peasants are on the side of Gejz. He comes from a landed family that needs money to bribe voters. They don't have the money, but they are trying to borrow it. Mrs. Sajha, the wife of the land lord in Huhar, comes to visit them. He goes to match his daughter Ľudmila to their son. But Ľudmila doesn't care about Gejza. Her heart belongs to Jablonkay...
