As a maverick born in the 1990s and a young college girl, Su Lin (played by Li Xiaolu) saw a photo of the famous agent Sun Zhiyang (played by William Li) during a visit to the history museum. Su Lin was instantly attracted by Sun Zhiyang's photos and couldn't extricate herself for a long time. That night, she found herself back in Chongqing in 1949 and was involved in a student movement group as Liu Yunxia, an underground party member. In the student group, she met Sun Zhiyang, a student movement leader, a rich second generation of that era, a progressive young man who was enthusiastic, simple and full of ideals. Su Lin's incomprehension of progressive youth and curiosity about that era made Su Lin want to get close to Sun Zhiyang, but she also had conflicts with Sun Zhiyang due to different personalities and ideas. The organization arranged for Su Lin and Sun Zhiyang to pretend to be lovers and carry out a series of dangerous and unusual tasks such as assassinations and stealing intelligence. During the execution of the mission, Su Lin gradually developed a good impression of Sun Zhiyang. However, during a mission to rescue the arrested comrades, Su Lin and Sun Zhiyang unfortunately failed and were arrested. Su Lin and Sun Zhiyang were imprisoned in Zhazidong Prison, and the two had a arduous prison love. Su Lin completely fell in love with Sun Zhiyang. She told Sun Zhiyang that the inmates in the prison would eventually die in a massacre. However, Sun Zhiyang still did not give up hope and began to organize the inmates in the prison to escape. Su Lin also used the wisdom of modern people to help Sun Zhiyang plan the escape. However, after many difficulties, the prison escape finally failed, and Sun Zhiyang and his fellow inmates all died. Su Lin woke up and found that everything was still the same as before, but there was someone named Sun Zhiyang in her heart.
