Overview
Viareggio 1983... Andrea, psychiatrist and writer, attends the funeral of his old friend Guido and is overwhelmed by a wave of memories: the summer of 1944, the last weeks of the Nazi retreat in Tuscany. Guido, who had joined fascism, is captured by the partisans and sentenced to death. Andrea, who militates among the anti-fascists, finds his friend in terrible physical and mental conditions. She manages to hide him in a mental hospital and, in an attempt to bring him back to his senses, she adopts a kind of memory therapy by making him remember their history from when they were boys.
